Frequently asked questions

The journey, the organisation, payment and formalities.

The journey

Seven stages, seven days. A journey of memory, never a religious one.

A journey of memory and reconnection with ancestral roots in Benin, from 3 to 9 January 2027, during the Vodun Days. Seven days, seven stages, to discover who your ancestors were before the Atlantic rupture, then what happened to them and what they passed on.

Kalọ̀ sí ilé® evokes the return home. For Bénin Roots, it means returning to the story of those who came before us.

First of all the African diaspora: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, France, Brazil, Haiti, the United States, Canada. The journey is also open to cultural travellers, history lovers, researchers, families and associations.

Welcome in Cotonou, then Porto-Novo, Kétou, Savè, Savalou, Abomey, Grand-Popo and Agoué, and finally Ouidah during the Vodun Days. Return to Cotonou on 9 January.

Ouidah makes sense when connected to the other territories. The journey is a story that unfolds, not a series of visits: each stage brings a different dimension, and Ouidah comes when you know who those who left were.

Vodoun is not an attraction added to the tour. It is approached as a living cultural and spiritual heritage, with authenticity and respect for the communities.

No. The journey is cultural and heritage-based. Vodoun is approached as a living cultural and spiritual heritage, with respect for the communities. No membership or initiation is involved, and you do not need to be a practitioner.

No. Activities are presented in advance and you remain free to take part in each of them or not.

The organisation

Fifty seats, and support from the first day to the last.

50 places for the 2027 edition. Registration closes on 5 December 2026.

You could. The difference lies in the local organisation, an itinerary built as a story, coordinated providers and constant support. You spend your time on encounters, not on logistics.

Private or tailored options are available on request, for families or small groups. An advisor can present them to you.

By the Bénin Roots team and local guides throughout the tour, with WhatsApp support before and during the journey.

You are welcomed at Cotonou airport on 3 January. Transfers are included, as well as the opening briefing and the Roots Passport handover.

Local coordination supports you throughout the stay, with a contact person available at every stage, including on WhatsApp.

Mainly in French. Language support is being considered for English and Portuguese speakers.

To live the Vodun Days 2027 in Ouidah, a cultural programme unique in the year.

Yes. The flight is deliberately not included so that everyone leaves from home, and the journey starts on arrival in Cotonou.

Kalọ̀ sí ilé® is run by Bénin Roots, whose legal entity is PROGENITEL SARL, based in Abomey-Calavi. Programme, terms, partners and contacts are presented to you before any confirmation.

Payment

One price per person, payable in two steps, flight not included.

€1,814 per person, or 1,190,000 FCFA, for 7 days and 6 nights, excluding the international flight.

Kalọ̀ sí ilé® is not a tourist stay. The price covers transport, local organisation, accommodation, support and cultural discoveries across seven territories, organised from start to finish. And you pay in two steps.

Request the programme on the Vodun Days 2027 page. An advisor then contacts you on WhatsApp and sends you a secure payment link to pay 400,000 FCFA per person.

Bank card, Mobile Money or bank transfer. Amounts are shown in euros and in FCFA.

Yes, in two steps: 400,000 FCFA per person when you book, then 790,000 FCFA on arrival, once you have been driven to the hotel.

This amount confirms your place and starts the booking of services: accommodation, transport, access to activities.

Terms depend on the cancellation date. They are detailed in the cancellation policy and presented before any payment. No cancellation is possible after 30 November 2026. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Formalities
